Where I Live
by Jude Goodwin

This is where I live
these are the walls of rock,
here is the river, the blush
of evening along its sleek banks.
See the fierce currents twist
and strain, the muscle of water
tear into night. This is the path
to home, across lawns past laughter,
these are the lamps of day's end,
mid-summer torches, guitar song.
Here is the dog, his fur, his soft mouth,
the smell of all his good times
in the water and on the grass.
This is the door ajar,
the clean beach-
wood floors beneath my feet,
the full belly of our space.
See the clay rooster stretch
his neck, his wing reaches for the lily.
