Tilt, Literary Notes V2:E1

- Gettin' It
-
by Judy Swann

What if I called the police right now
Or the fire department or the emergency room
Would they send the braves over in a party
Or Bluebeard's wife's brothers, would they
Automatically bring ladders, lanterns, special dogs?
A flock of nurse, a snake handler, a squad of S.W.A.T.?
How would it compare to television, this heroic
And perilously medallion-invested rescue
Of my old eggs from the trash-bin, bloody cotton,
What little blood I can spare, as if I were in control
Distressed like this, big bull's eye on my cervix
The pretenders wheeling their steeds 'round
Lance at the ready, to anchor my small moon
And save me thereby from this crime
This inferno, this accidental death,
And get me with child.

Judy Swann is a sedate, middle-aged matron who has dreamed of this moment for years. She spent many years moving from place to place, a practice she abandoned after she started reproducing. She hopes someday to win a prize.
